Useful apps for living in San Diego.

Updated: Dec 15, 2017

Relocating to San Diego? Here is my top 9 apps to get you settled.

When relocating to San Diego there are 10 apps that you will find essential to getting the lay of the land. Take a look at my top 10 listed below.

1. If you are not familiar with Waze then you should be. Living in San Diego I quickly realized there is more than one way to get from point a to point b. Waze tells you the quickest route every time. It takes into account traffic patterns and plans a route around them.

2. There is tons of hiking opportunities in San Diego and the surrounding area. All Trails has a comprehensive list of trails and reviews given by other users. Think of it as Yelp for trails.

3. Downloading a local news app like Fox 5 helps you get connected with safety concerns quickly.

4. The USO app is used to check into events. You will need it for the Food Pantry, Tuesday Night Dinners, Community Chest and more.

5. If you are planning a visit to SeaWorld go ahead and download this app. This app has a park map and up to date show times so you can plan your day before you go.

6. The Balboa Park app has everything you need to know about the park. There is a list of museums, attractions, events, trails and more.

7. The Cal Fire Ready for WildFire App allows you put in your zip code to get specific apps to your area. You can even put in your phone number and it will send alerts based on where your phone is. This is a great feature if you are exploring outside of your area.

8. My EarthQuake Alerts app doesn’t have the highest star rating but I find it to be easier to use. I like that it has a easily read map where I can see how close to me the earthquakes are. Personally, I have a hard time judging how close or far away something is when I am new to an area so maps are helpful.

9. Last but not least, YELP is wonderful for getting to know your local places like restaurants, pet groomers, salons, and anything else you might want to check out. Reading reviews is a great way to find those hidden gems in San Diego.

I am always looking for new helpful apps. What apps are you loving? Please leave them in the comments below.
